Industry Description
Healthcare training will provide you with the knowledge and credentials you need to make the most of the many career opportunities available in healthcare – the largest and one of the fastest growing industries in the US. Employment Projections data indicate that employment in education and health services will increase 31.8 percent over the 2002-12 period, the strongest projected employment growth of any industry sector.
There are a variety of rewarding and challenging roles available in the health care industry for anyone with the appropriate healthcare training. One of the most in-demand roles in the health care industry is the qualified nurse. The shortage of qualified nurses in the past few years, coupled with the aging population, means that career opportunities are better than ever. There were approximately 2.2 million nursing jobs in the US in 2000, and employment of registered nurses is expected to grow consistently through 2010.
Another growth area for employment is in medical assisting. Employment of medical assistants is expected to rise much faster than the average for all occupations through 2005. Medical assistants play a key role in hospitals, clinics and physicians’ offices throughout the US so it is important that they are well trained.
Other medical roles such as massage are increasing in popularity and could be a consideration for anyone thinking of entering the health care professions. In the medical industry, natural medicines and healing practices are increasingly popular and this is a field in which vacancies for properly trained professionals are also on the increase.
Health care programs are available in many formats, including online, so the knowledge and skills required to begin a career as a health career professional have never been so accessible.
